A Taste of Austria in Dubai: Austrian National Tourist Office Hosts Exclusive Barista Workshop Showcasing Viennese Coffee Culture

The Austrian National Tourist Office (ANTO) successfully hosted an exclusive barista workshop at Dubai Hills Mall on February 13, featuring world-champion Austrian Barista Franz Grünwald. The event was part of ANTO's initiative to highlight the rich coffee house culture of Austria, a tradition deeply ingrained in the country's social fabric, to the residents and visitors of Dubai.

Led by Franz Grünwald, a renowned figure in the world of coffee, the workshop provided an immersive experience into the art of preparing various Viennese coffee specialties. Participants had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the tradition of Austrian coffee making, sampling a menu that included the Obermeier, Überstürzter Neumann, and Einspänner - each a testament to Austria's coffee mastery.

The coffee culture, a hallmark of the Austrian lifestyle, can be experienced throughout Austria and through this workshop, attendees also had the chance to learn about the European Capital of Culture, Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut region, offering an exceptional glimpse into this unique aspect of Austrian culture. Known for its picturesque landscapes and historical significance, Bad Ischl epitomises Austria's blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Michael Tauschmann, Director Middle East for ANTO, said: "The coffee house culture in Austria is a testament to the country's rich tradition of hospitality. It goes beyond merely enjoying a fine cup of coffee; it's about creating a warm, welcoming space where every visitor becomes part of our community. This aspect of our culture mirrors the values of warmth and hospitality that are deeply appreciated by travellers from the GCC.

“The workshop was a splendid opportunity to bring a slice of Austrian charm to Dubai, allowing guests to experience the essence of our coffee culture, the allure of Austrian hospitality, and the exquisite flavours of our coffee house traditions.”

Franz Grünwald, the event's leading Barista, brought a wealth of experience and a deep passion for coffee. Born in Vienna and having run his own restaurant and coffee shop, Grünwald's journey in the world of coffee has been marked by numerous accolades, including the Austrian Barista Championship and the SCAE Master Barista certification. His commitment to promoting the Viennese coffee house culture and ensuring the highest quality in every cup was on full display during the workshop.

Grünwald shared, "The workshop was more than just an exhibition of coffee preparation; it was a gateway to understanding the soul of Austrian culture. Our coffee houses are not just places to drink coffee—they are venues where art, intellect, and camaraderie flourish. I am pleased to have brought a piece of this cherished tradition to Dubai and shared it with those eager to experience the warmth and depth of Austrian hospitality."

The event celebrated Austria's coffee culture and extended an invitation to explore the rich tapestry of Austrian traditions. The ANTO remainds dedicated to bringing the authentic Austrian experience to the world, highlighting the country's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while embracing visitors with open arms
